Deutschland und Namibia schließen Wasserstoff-Partnerschaft

Bundesforschungsministerin Anja Karliczek und der Generaldirektor der namibischen Planungskommission Obeth M. Kandjoze haben eine Wasserstoff-Partnerschaft zwischen Deutschland und Namibia abgeschlossen und hierzu heute in Windhoek und Berlin eine gemeinsame Absichtserklärung (Joint Communiqué of Intent, "JCoI") unterzeichnet.

Bundesforschungsministerin Anja Karliczek stellte fest: "Namibia hat enorme Potenziale für den Hochlauf einer grünen Wasserstoffwirtschaft: Das Land verfügt über große, bislang ungenutzte Flächen. Die Windgeschwindigkeiten in Namibia ermöglichen eine besonders profitable Erzeugung von Windstrom. Noch größer ist das Potenzial beim Solarstrom: Über 3.500 Sonnenstunden zählt Namibia jährlich. Das ist fast doppelt so viel wie in Deutschland."

Obeth M. Kandjoze, Generaldirektor der Nationalen Planungskommission Namibias sowie Vorsitzender des namibischen Wasserstoffrates, betonte: "Diese Regierung weiß nur zu gut, dass die Arbeit zur Bekämpfung des Klimawandels weder 2030 noch 2050 beginnt, sondern heute, am 25. August 2021, dem Tag, an dem sich die deutsche und die namibische Regierung die Hände reichen und sagen: Heute bauen wir eine Zukunft, die die Wünsche unseres Volkes widerspiegelt. Die visionäre Führung dieser Nation weiß, dass auf einem Planet, der sich um 1,5 Grad erwärmt, Ereignisse, die früher einmal alle 50 Jahre auftraten, 8,6 Mal wahrscheinlicher werden. Und bei 2 Grad werden diese Ereignisse 13,9 Mal häufiger auftreten. Das ist keine Welt, die wir unseren Kindern hinterlassen wollen."

DONATIONS FOR NAMIBIA TOWARDS COVID-19 RELIEF

Dear Friends of Namibia,

This is to share with you some impressions on the COVID-19 relief campaign that has been underway since June 2021. The Embassy of the Republic of Namibia in Berlin has witnessed great public awareness of the COVID-19 situation in Namibia and the resulting efforts to acquire assistance, in the form of donations from all corners of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Republic of Poland and the Czech Republic. All efforts by civil society, businesses and individuals in mobilising assistance and sending donations to the Embassy are highly appreciated!

The first consignment with urgently needed equipment, including CPAP machines and oxygen machines arrived in Namibia on 18 July 2021, where it was received by the Ministry of Health and Social Services for onward transmission to Katutura State Hospital in Windhoek and Gobabis District Hospital in Omaheke Region.

On 21 July 2021, the second consignment was collected by a logistics company from the Embassy, for dispatch to Namibia. The consignment is expected to arrive in Namibia on Wednesday, 28 July 2021 by Lufthansa from Frankfurt.

Für den reibungslosen Ablauf der Delegationstreffen waren Janntje Böhlke-Itzen, Leiterin International Relation, und Bas Rijnen, Projektkoordinator an der NUST, verantwortlich.

Für beide Hochschulen gehört die Kooperation zu einer der längsten und erfolgreichsten Partnerschaften.

Deutsche Welle Academy opens Office in Windhoek

The DW Akademie cooperates with well-established partners such as the Namibian Broadcasters Network, NCBN, as well as the nbc.

Other activities DW Akademie is focusing on are the provision of basic journalism training, the development of new programming, audience research and strengthening media networking with the assistance of the long-standing collaboration with the nbc.

Friederike Kärcher, Head of Division Culture, Creative Industries and Sport at the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (third from the right) commended Namibia on being "a role model for media cooperation".

In Namibia, the Ministry of Works and Transport and the German Embassy broke the ground for a new project in Okalongo yesterday: 34 access roads in northern Namibia will be flood-proofed over the next two years. 

Flood-proofing of roads with a combined length of 128 km in Omusati and Ohangwena region will improve access to 7 clinics and 18 schools. "Better access to clinics in the rainy season can have a life-saving character", Stella Seibert-Palaschino (German Embassy Windhoek) said in her speech at the ceremony.

23316824 1542798675836092 439263816369095870 nMinister !Naruseb underlined, that the roads will be built by 6 "Emerging Contractors". These Namibian Small and Medium Enterprises have undergone training and gathered experience which allows them to conduct the works on their own accountability without guidance by main contractors.

The project will cost approximately 12,4 million Euro (200 million Namibian Dollar) of which 60 million Namibian Dollar will be contributed by the Namibian government. The project fosters economic development and social progress through improved access to education and health services.
